EJN welcomed as new IFEX member
The Exiled Journalists' Network (EJN) has become a full member of the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX).
EJN was one of nine new members welcomed during the Global Forum on Freedom of Expression held in Oslo in June. IFEX now has 88 members worldwide.
Freelance Fundraisers Wanted For Exiled Journalists Network
The Exiled Journalists’ Network (EJN) is a groundbreaking organisation set up to help journalists who have fled to the UK to escape persecution because of their media work.
The 200-member group organised by and for exiled journalists aims to promote press freedom around the world and assist both asylum seeking and refugee journalists. Its patrons included journalists Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, Channel 4’s International editor Lindsey Hilsum, Journalist and Royal African Society Director Richard Dowden, and President of the National Union of Journalists Tim Lezard.
EJN is now seeking freelance fundraisers to help with generating income for this UK organization. These are not salaried positions, but we offer generous financial rewards that are based on amounts of funds raised. We also provide freelancers many benefits that come with knowing such a large and varied body of media people from around the world. If you think you can help us out in this national and international endeavour, please get in touch and we will give you more information about the project.
AGM is coming
The EJN AGM is coming up at the University of East London (Docklands Campus) on the afternoon of Saturday 19th of June. Every EJN member will be eligible to vote or stand for election at the AGM as long as their membership fee is honoured.

MIGRANTS AND THE MEDIA EUROPEAN 2-DAY CONFERENCE
UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON, 29-30 MARCH 2010
The ‘Migrants and the Media Project’ (MMP) and the ‘Centre for Research on Migration, Refugees and Belonging’ (CMRB) at the ‘University of East London’ (UEL) are organising a conference for groups involved in media and cultural activities which promote a positive engagement with the issue of migration.
MMP is a partnership of organisations working in five European countries – Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Spain and the UK. Each of the partners has been working on projects which use a range of media, communication and ‘cultural’ strategies to engage with issues concerning the lives of migrants in Europe, with the intention of increasing awareness for change in the realm of public perception and policy. UEL is one of the UK’s most diverse and fastest growing universities with more than 20,000 students from 120 countries worldwide.
